Email Marketing: 1 Easy way to Increase Sales

While starting a business today is much easier than before, running a successful business has proven to be a quite challenging task. There is strong competition in every market and business owners are constantly looking for a way to increase revenue and expand their business operations with email marketing. One of the things that must be included in your general business strategy is customer retention. Customer retention is defined in different ways, but the simplest description is that customer retention represents the number of customer relationships that a business can keep in the long run once there are established.

This is a very important factor in the growth of any business. Many different customer retention strategies are available to business owners today, few are the ones that actually follow. These strategies can significantly boost your customer retention rates if they are used in a proper way.  One customer retention strategy that is used by several businesses today is email marketing.

What is email marketing?

Email marketing is described as a special type of marketing that is conducted with the help of electronic mail. So, every email sent to a prospective of the current customer is considered to be an email marketing activity. In the case of customer retention, these emails are sent to existing customers. Email marketing designed for customer retention is different than the typical promotional emails we’ve all seen. They are here to entertain, inform, educate and ultimately help business owners create a long-term relationship with their clients. They are more than a sales talk – they contain substantial content.

Reasons to create a relationship with customers via email

Educational – These emails can help customers the industry knowledge that will help them connect your products and services with quality. In other words, they will find out why they should buy your items.

Informational – People must stay informed about your latest product announcements, content and other new things about our business. So, this is another reason why you should use email to create a relationship with customers. This is the simplest way to share these updates.

Brand awareness – Many businesses use newsletter emails for this purpose. Namely, they have figured out that newsletter emails can improve brand awareness and establish a stronger relationship with their loyal customers.

Advisory – It’s not unusual to send advisory emails, so there’s another reason why you should use email marketing for customer retention. Customers will definitely become more loyal when they get information about how to use the products they’ve bought in the best way.

Reorder reminder – Finally, you can also use emails to remind your existing customers that they need to reorder a specific product. For example, these emails are sent to online customers that are buying contact lenses, pet supplies, printer cartridges and other similar things online.

Of course, the list of reasons is much longer, but we have focused on the most important reasons.

How to grow customer retention rate via email marketing

Customer retention rate can be significantly increased with the help of email messages. For starters, you can use emails to deliver personalised messages to certain categories of customers. If you use special email marketing software for this purpose, you can divide your existing customers into different meaningful clusters and create email messages tailored to their needs. This is especially useful to you if you offer different kinds of products and services. More relevant emails will help you grow customer retention rate and vice versa.

As previously mentioned, you can also use emails to improve customer retention with friendly reminder emails. You can remind them about certain events or maybe about their products that are about to get empty or used. For example, if you are selling dog food and a customer has order one package for a small breed dog that lasts for one month, you can send a reminder after three weeks.

Another great option is to use email to deliver promotions and coupons to customers. According to some surveys, over 50% of millennials said that promotional emails have affected their purchasing decision. (1) Keep in mind that these promotions don’t have to be spectacular. Only a small discount or a free product in addition to the order can make them satisfied and turn a first-time buyer into a repeat customer.

Finally, you can use emails to receive customer review or feedback requests. People love it when they have a chance to voice their opinion and you can definitely profit from this by improving their services and products. The final result is clear – increased customer retention rate.

Advantages of email marketing

First of all, email marketing is an effective type of marketing. It doesn’t take much time for you to create attractive emails. According to some statistics, it should not take more than 12 minutes to write an email of this kind. (3)

Next, some surveys show that it takes about 5-7 messages to get your customer to make another purchase. (2) We should also mention another great advantage of email marketing and that’s the opportunity to create viral emails. If the content is attractive, it is very likely that the receiver will forward it to their friends and colleagues. In other words, you can expect free advertisement. In the end, we must point out that email marketing is not constrained with any time frames. Your email marketing campaign can include automated sending of emails at specific days and specific periods of the day.

Emailing tips and hints

One of the best ways to enhance your email marketing campaign results is to use A/B/ testing. This testing allows users to send one form of their campaign to specific users and other to another group of users in order to measure the effects. Obviously, the one with a better response should be used in the future. The email results data you get will allow you to learn more about opens and clicks rate and you should adjust emails and subject based on this data. The perfect solution is to use a software that has the ability to record these opens and clicks of every customer, filter spam content, send informational emails, speed up the designing and creation of these emails, help you personalise emails and more.

8 Tips to prepare a killer email marketing campaign

A lot of businesses struggle with finding the right email marketing campaign tips. There is a reason for that, doing the right email marketing campaign can bring significant growth, it is not easy. Every person is subjected to tons of email promotions, yours is just one of them. But if you do it properly, your email campaign might actually stick out. So you have to be very careful, and you have to focus your attention on your audience! Presenting the right information to the right audience will also increase your customer retention opportunities!

Here you have a few great tips to help you with your email marketing campaigns:

  1. Create a subject line that is compelling. Yes, the headline is imperative, and in the end, you will find that most readers will not open the email if the subject line is not impressive for them. Creating a good, exciting and interesting subject line will come in handy in your email marketing campaign.
  2. Target your audience. One of the primary email marketing campaign tips is to know who your audience is. Just sending messages to random email addresses will not work. If you want to generate sales, you will have to create an audience based on that, so keep it in mind.
  3. Maintain a sense of consistency. Your brand needs to sound and look the same all the time. This will show your customers that you invest your time in your brand. Consistency helps you with branding, and it can lead to lots of success in the end!
  4. Integrate a clear call to action. A good CTA will show your users what they should do, how they can complete the sales process and so on.
  5. Automated triggers work very well. Previews and promoting something in an enticing manner will come in handy. Customers may end up liking what you share, and you can quickly generate your sales based on that. Have a friendly tone and use automatic triggers for the best results.
  6. Ask your customers to add you to the safe list. Yes, customers can easily mark your emails as spam, so your efforts will be in vain.
  7. Create the right campaign deadline. One of the best email marketing campaign tips tells you that a good deadline would be around 1-2 weeks or a month. Don’t offer just 2 days to take action and try to inform your customers about what you deliver well beforehand.
  8. Use incentives, as they will help take the customer experience to a new level. If your customers see an incentive, they will most likely come back very often to your website. Try to offer them something in return for their time. If you use this approach, they will have a great experience. From here to generating plenty of sales it will be one minor step.

These are some of the best email marketing campaign tips that you can use right away. Remember, focusing on success and delivering the right value will always help. Try to nurture your leads, offer interesting information and be consistent with the emails you send. This will show your leads that you have a publishing schedule and that you care about them. If possible, try to make personalized emails and perhaps targeted information to a specific audience. One single email will not suffice for all your audience.

Why do you need Lead nurturing?

Generating leads is only one part of the marketing world. You also have to focus on providing constant value and quality to your leads. This is what lead nurturing is all about, providing quality and useful information at the right time to the right leads. But what type of benefits do you get from Lead nurturing? Here you have a few great ideas to show the value of nurturing your leads!

Lead nurturing helps identify your leads’ interests

Thanks to Lead nurturing emails, tracking and social media, you get to see the concerns that your leads are facing right now. Their behaviours. Knowing that will allow you to come up with a solution. This will bring you a significant increase in conversions in the long run. You will also be providing a more personalised experience to your leads, which will definitely help you achieve more bonus points on paper.

Constant communication

As we mentioned above, nothing is more important than communication in the sales world. Talk to your leads, understand their requirements and their concerns. Use an automated communication system, track conversations. So, try to focus on that the best way you can.

Immediate response

Thanks to Lead nurturing, you know the problems that your leads are facing. From here to responding first and generating more sales, it will be a simple step. Studies have shown that around 50% of the sales will go to the first responding company, so you have to be the first if you want to get a high-profit margin.

Finding the right segmentation options

Even if you don’t have a lot of leads, you should segment them into multiple categories. Lead segmentation will bring in, even more, insight into how to properly handle your leads. It just works, and the experience is an excellent one, in the end, just keep that in mind.

Increasing the engagement

Thanks to Lead nurturing, you get to show customers and leads that you care. This boosts engagement rating, and it just brings in front a multitude of great opportunities all the time. You just have to know how to eliminate those problems as you bring in front much better, more compelling solutions. This can do wonders for your business!

It helps you become an expert in the industry

Being able to become an expert in the industry will certainly pay off. And you can do that via Lead nurturing. You create relevant, professional content that will inform your leads about what’s happening in the industry. This is certainly going to come in handy in the long term, so try to keep that in mind the best way you can.

It boosts your growth

Since not every lead is ready to buy at right away, with Lead nurturing you get to stimulate growth and sales! You get to show leads the benefits of working with you and that can be an amazing experience for your leads in the long term. Having the right approach here will help quite a bit, and you certainly want that to happen in the end.

Don’t hesitate and harness the power of Lead nurturing as quickly as possible. Whether you are a startup or an experienced business, it is never too late or too early to start. It will help you grow your business, generate more sales and boost communication in your company. It works extremely well, and in the end, your business will be a more profitable one!

What is lead scoring?

If you’re somewhat into digital marketing, or you run your own online business, you must have come across the term Lead Scoring. But what does this do, how can it help you and is there a way to make the best out of it?

Imagine spending 30% less on your acquisition campaigns while increasing your revenue by 30%? The reason is that most marketers expect all leads to behave in the same manner. Sales expect to follow the same funnel and procedure for all their leads. Nowadays, that will not fly. Leads require a different approach when closing – some are ready to buy, and others are not. This is what lead scoring is all about, discovering which of your leads are ready to buy.

What is lead scoring?

At its core, this is a concept designed to help you rank prospects against a scale which shows the actual value offered by each lead. There will be a score, and that score indicates which leads will get a specific function. The highest scoring leads will be suitable for sales; others can be appropriate for nurturing.

The best Lead scoring models are focused specifically on including implicit as well as explicit information. The implicit scores come from monitoring the behaviour of that prospect. Things like clicks, emails opened, whitepaper downloads and website visits will help you figure out the implicit score.

On the other hand, the explicit scores tend to showcase the info that is shared by the prospect. This is a more direct approach, and it focuses on things like geographic location, job title, industry and company type.

Recently, a new type of score named the social score was also included in the mix, and this one shows the lead relevancy on social media. Basically, this will study the activity that prospect has on social media, and it will help figure out the best score on that.

With Lead scoring, a company can easily customise the experience of any prospect. This is modified based on the stage that particular prospect is at and it can quickly boost the lead readiness quality.

Benefits of Lead scoring

There are many benefits you can get from Lead scoring; maybe the most obvious is that you get a boost in revenue. This will help you a lot if you want to grow your business. Plus, you get to prepare your customers for the road ahead in a more efficient manner, and that can also bring in a multitude of benefits all the time.

Moreover, this will help you align your sales and marketing functions. This means you get to establish a language suitable for both sales and marketing. In the end, this will bring you a sound return on investment and the quality will be second to none all the time.

The marketing efficiency is also increased via Lead scoring since you get to figure out what types of leads matter the most for your business. Nurture them, and you will have no problem racking up the best profitability for your company in the long term.

Avoid rushing and results can be very well worth it all the time. Setting up an efficient lead scoring mechanism for your business is time-consuming and requires several cycles of adjustments to your formula, be patient!

What is the scarcity principle?

The Scarcity Principle is not a fictitious online marketing tactic. It is based on the economic value of Supply and Demand. We live in a consumer society, so if you have a company that wants to grow, you need to generate demand and grow your business based on that. One of the best things that you can use is to increase conversions naturally, but finding the right way to do such a thing can be a bit frustrating. This is where the scarcity principle comes into play.

What is the scarcity principle?

Simply put, this is an economic principle that shows how limiting the supply can lead to a very high demand for that product. According to this principle, a customer is more likely to pull the trigger if he sees that the product is selling fast. Of course, this goes with the assumption that the customer can afford such a product. That doesn’t happen all the time though, and in the end, it can be rather challenging for sure.

When a consumer sees that the product is scarce, he/she is faced with a rash decision. They need to focus on performing a cost-benefit analysis in order to see whether the benefits of that particular product are worth it or not. Most of the time, if the consumer already had that product on their wishlist for a long time, he/she will pull the trigger and purchase the product. It is similar to a leap of faith in your product or service. I need it, better now than later because …… (it might be gone, or I will save)

However, the scarcity principle is necessary here, because there will be no urge for the customer to purchase that item unless he sees that the quantity or offer is limited. And that’s why the scarcity principle increases conversions. It manages to make the most out of a person’s urge to purchase an item by offering a choice between buying or losing that product or deal forever.

Obviously, the scarcity principle won’t work all the time. If a person has a very high knowledge of persuasion, this principle will not bring any urge to acquire that product.

2 methods that work

Two scarcity principle methods that are widely used in the online and offline world and which are harnessing the power of the scarcity principle. This includes the time-related scarcity and the quantity-related scarcity. The time-related one usually brings a timer that shows you for how many hours/minutes that deal is still on. Then you have the quantity-related scarcity principle that requires you to offer only a limited amount of purchases.

When you see things like “Only 1 left in Stock” or “Offer available for the next 60 minutes”, customers are more likely to initiate a purchase. And that’s what you need to focus on. If you have a business, you need to use the scarcity principle to your benefit. You have to concentrate on increasing conversions to the best of your capabilities.

So, how can you use the scarcity principle to generate more sales for your business? You can create limited production runs, create closed and open periods for the ongoing offers. You can provide some benefits to people that are willing to be the early adopters. All of these are great ideas that harness the power of scarcity and use this principle to accumulate a significant ROI. The results can be significant. So you just have to try this out, and the value will be there at all times. Use these ideas and understand that scarcity can indeed help your business grow, you just have to make the most out of it!

8 Customer retention strategies for all online businesses

Entrepreneurs who conduct business ventures over the Internet must have a solid plan in order to grow their dream. This plan must contain specific strategies that are carefully developed and tested before they are implemented. Of course, customer retention strategies are one of the most important strategies for all businesses. Customer retention is defined as a process where customers keep buying services or products after a certain period of time. It can also be defined as a group of activities or processes that are conducted in order to lower the so-called churn rate.

So, when we are talking about customer retention strategies, we are talking about methods to increase customer loyalty. Customer retention strategy is a specific plan created to achieve the ultimate objective of keeping customers. In this article, we will highlight a few strategies that will help you increase customer retention.

1. Publish blogs to keep existing customers active (and attract potential customers)

Several online business owners make the same mistake over and over again. They have no blog and they merely use content to promote their products/services. The fact is that blogs should be used to educate customers about facts that interest your audience. Publish blog posts that have value, posts that can educate your audience, give out free information and knowledge about what you understand but what is interesting enough to keep your readers coming back for more. It is not a bad idea to offer blog posts with DIY solutions for their problems, but point out that using your services/products might be a better idea. Additionally, share these posts with the help of email marketing for an even wider reach.

2. Customer retention strategies must include some form of rewards

You should also consider offering rewards. For instance, if someone makes an order for a specific set of items, you grant a reward. For example, if you are selling a weight loss product like supplements, you can provide a free weight loss e-book for customers that purchase two bottles of supplements. These rewards, as a customer retention tool, are even more effective when used in conjunction with a loyalty program or the scarcity principle (we will cover this in another post but in a nutshell, the principle entails offering your customers a limited time offer). This way, you can make customers feel special and even more important. They will know that they are getting rewards because they are members of such program.

3. Present a loyalty program

A study conducted a while ago which focused on coffee shops in the United States has shown that four out of ten people are getting coffee at Starbucks on a regular basis. Two out of ten people were buying coffee from independent stores or smaller chains of coffee shops. One of the main reasons for that is their so-called My Starbuck Rewards loyalty program. (1) Their program is especially popular among mobile device users because it saves them time and provides access to loyalty points and discounts. If you want to get the most out of customer loyalty programs, keep things easy and simple. The point system should be clear so that people can easily figure out what they are getting.

4. Rely on email marketing

Email marketing goes hand in hand with personalised communication. So, when we are talking about email marketing as one of your most important customer retention strategies we are not suggesting mass email marketing with generic messages, that is SPAM!. There are many online tools that business owners can use to make this process more personalised. You can target different clusters of people with different pieces of information or offers. Email marketing for retention can be used in many different ways. For example, you can ask your clients to review their recently purchased item, send a collection of educational emails, or use a simple come back or thank you email message. Something that simple goes a long way! All these things are great for customer retention.

5. Ask for Reviews/testimonials/customer feedback

Another great way to improve customer retention regardless of the type of your online business is to ask for reviews and testimonials. This honest and straightforward customer feedback will help you improve customer experience and their expectations too. Use this feedback to enhance your services and products. If you want to increase their response, you can use emails or even incentives. Just follow the examples of stronger brands.

6. Coupons/promotions

Customer retention can be “bought” but we are not talking about monetary rewards or similar techniques. The best idea is to reward their loyalty with something that will make them feel special. According to many experts, this special thing is promotions/coupons. Instead of leaving your customers to decide whether they will use your online business again or not, you should attract them by offering special promotions and coupons after they purchase some of your products. Repeat customers are very important and well-established online businesses know this. Once again, you can rely on email marketing or even cold phone calls for this purpose.

7. Provide impeccable customer service

It is impossible to expect their loyalty if you do not provide impeccable customer service. Did you know that a customer that is not satisfied with your product or services will tell up to 15 people about their unpleasant experience? (2) In addition, more than 10% of dissatisfied customers tell over 20 people they know about their bad experience. By hiring professional customer service workers who provide quality solutions and deliver answers in a timely manner, you should be able to improve customer service and ultimately customer retention.

8. Adding personal touches

A study conducted and published by the Journal of Applied Social Psychology has confirmed that adding personal touches to your services can improve customer retention. Namely, waitresses and waiters boosted their tips for over 23% when they have served a second set of mints on tables. (3) Focus on finding certain things that can personalise your relationship with the clients. Analyse their age, gender, location and behaviour and you should be able to find that these personal touches can improve customer retention.
Customer retention is very important and with these customer retention strategies in mind you should be able to improve your own customer retention and increase sales!
